The skill of searching for and appraising research underpins the ability of health visitors to maintain an evidence-based approach to practice. However, it is a skill that needs to be practised.

How to find current research

If you are a university student then your university library will have access to resources to access literature through searchable data bases as well as guidance on how best to use them.

Likewise, the NHS has local library resources, access to data bases and you can often get the advice of a specialist librarian. To find your local health library, search the Health Library and Information Services directory:
