One of the key objectives of the Institute is to strengthen research capability and capacity to develop the evidence base for health visiting.
The Institute’s research portfolio is managed by our Project’s and Evaluation team. We promote high quality research, collaborate in national research partnerships, support research in practice and the development of health visiting researchers.
Dr Sharin Baldwin joined the iHV Projects and Evaluations team in July 2023 as Senior Health Visitor Research Lead. Sharin brings with her a wealth of research knowledge and experience.

The Institute of Health Visiting’s Expert Adviser for Research is Professor Sally Kendall MBE. Sally is the Professor of Community Nursing and Public Health at the University of Kent and the Research Capacity Lead for ARC KSS. Sally’s main research interests are in primary and community health care, public health and parenting self-efficacy in the UK and internationally – especially research that seeks to improve the health and wellbeing of families and children in the community. Sally is an experienced research and PhD supervisor and member of the NIHR Academy. She has worked closely with NIHR both as a former panel member of the ICA programme and as the former academic lead of the ICA Mentorship programme. She has also led and collaborated on NIHR research studies.
