NOW RECRUITING: Public Health England Chief Nurse Directorate – The Nana Quawson Public Health Leadership award of up to £11,000

This award remembers the dedication, passion and drive of Nana Quawson (1972-2016), a valued colleague and school nurse who sadly passed away last year.

Are you a current registered health visitor or school nurse, professional leader or future leader for public health nurses working with children, young people and families?  Would you like to take your career as a public health nurse (SCPHN, registered on part 3 NMC) to the next level and be supported to realize your true potential?  Are you passionate about making a difference to the lives of children, young people and families through public health?

The Chief Nursing Directorate at PHE and the Florence Nightingale Foundation are offering a bespoke scholarship to an individual from a registered health visitor or school nurse background who wants to become a strong leader with the skills and self-confidence to contribute positively and make a tangible difference to the outcomes for children, young people and families.

Recipients of the PHE Chief Nursing Directorate – Nana Quawson Award for Public Health (CYP) Leadership Scholarship must be registered on part 3 of the NMC register.

The Florence Nightingale Foundation works to improve patient care through the provision of scholarships for nurses, midwives and other health professionals to enable them to extend knowledge and skills, and to promote innovation in practice.

Florence Nightingale Foundation scholarships 2017 are now open for applications.

Research Scholarships

The Research Scholarships are up to £5,000. Scholars can undertake an academic course of study that must demonstrate impact on patient care and be academically supervised or supported. They are available to nurses and midwives currently residing in the UK and registered with the NMC.

Travel Scholarships

The Travel Scholarships are up to £5,000 and provide an opportunity to study best practice elsewhere in the UK and/or overseas. Awarded for projects which will benefit patients/users and the
professions more widely, they are available to nurses and midwives currently residing in the UK and registered with the NMC.

Leadership Scholarships

Bespoke programmes to equip scholars with the skills and confidence to contribute positively and significantly to healthcare.

  • General Leadership: up to £15,000, available to senior nurses, midwives and other health professionals, as well as to Deans and Deputy Deans of Schools of Nursing/Faculties of Health in Universities.
  • Aspiring Deans: up to £15,000, available to senior educators, researchers and practitioners looking to become Dean of a university faculty with nursing, midwifery or AHP programmes.
  • Aspiring Nurse Directors: up to £14,000, available to nurses and midwives with potential to secure a Board level position in the next 2-3 years.
  • Emerging Leaders: up to £10,000, available to Band 7 and 8 nurses, midwives and other health professionals who have already completed a front-line leadership development programme

The Florence Nightingale Foundation raises funds to provide scholarships for Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors, to enable them to extend knowledge and skills, and to promote innovation in practice.

All available scholarships are a chance for nurses and midwives to better their professions, advance their own career, and ultimately are an opportunity to contribute to the improvement of care of patients and users in the UK.

Applications for the 2016/17 Florence Nightingale Foundation Scholarships open on Tuesday 1 March.

Leadership Scholarships of up to £15,000 are available for those who want to become leaders with the skills and self-confidence to contribute positively and with some significance to the rapidly changing world of healthcare.

Research Scholarships of up to £5,000 are available for scholars to undertake a course in research methods, research modules or a dissertation/thesis as part of an academic course of study. All of these must be able to demonstrate impact on patient care and be academically supervised or supported.

Travel Scholarships of up to £5,000 are a real opportunity to study practice elsewhere in the UK and/or overseas to enhance patient/user care in the UK. These scholarships are awarded for projects connected with the applicant’s field of work and which will benefit their patients/users and the professions more widely.

Research and Travel Scholarships are available to Nurses and Midwives who have current registration with the NMC and who work and are resident in the UK. Leadership Scholarships are additionally available to all registered healthcare professionals who have current registration and are resident in the UK.
