The iHV has been supported by the Burdett Trust for Nursing to develop a programme of training for health visitors and skill mix teams to become iHV Respiratory Health Ambassadors.
The training was co-produced by parents and professionals to support practitioners in their roles as placed-based leaders in raising awareness of chronic respiratory disease in children under 5-years, with colleagues and families.
- This co-production work highlighted that families wanted health visitors to have a basic understanding of their child’s respiratory health condition.
- Families wanted conversations with health visitors about air pollution – connecting them with trusted parent friendly advice and resources.
- A survey of health visitors highlighted a gap in training to support them in their role.
- Health visitors wanted easy to understand evidence-based information and resources to support them in their conversations with families, and access to resources and training to support their continued professional development.
