Jane worked in the NHS for forty nine years before her retirement in February 2015. For ten years before her retirement, she worked as Head of Children, Young People and Family Services for Warwickshire.
During her time in the NHS Jane took on a variety of roles. Once leaving the acute setting she worked as a district nurse before becoming a health visitor in 1980 and eventually took on her first leadership role as Clinical Leader for Health Visiting in 1996. The changes within the NHS gave her a number of opportunities such as Vice Chair of the Professional Executive Committee (PEC) Stratford District Primary Care Group and then Vice Chair of the PEC for South Warwickshire Primary Care Trust.
She was Children’s Lead for the PEC from 2002-2005 which formalised her role with partners in the voluntary sector and the Local Authority.
Jane has been a member of several national Task and Finish Groups – including one on information sharing and another on health services working with children’s centres.
Jane has been supporting a project in Romania for over 20 years. The project was set up to empower women and to reduce the number of abandoned babies. Jane continues to visit Romania several times a year. More recently she has been supporting UNICEF in Bulgaria with their newly formed home visiting service. Over the past three years, she has taken several groups of health visitors to Bulgaria to offer advice and training, as well as support for the teams there in their development of a home visiting service.
