The simplest changes in behaviour can prevent the most serious accidents to children. But prevention rests on building capacity for behaviour change.
There are myriad ways to build parents’ capacity…
- A quick chat with a busy mum on a home visit can show how small tweaks in routine, like finding a safe spot in the kitchen for their hot drink, can prevent the horror of a serious burn.
- An engaging display during a clinic, with handouts of simple safety tips for accidents typically associated with the next stage of development, can help parents stay one step ahead of their growing baby.
- A parenting group with an interactive session on a key issue, like poisoning prevention, can improve a pressured parent’s sense of agency.
But what about the capacity of professionals like you, who want to engage with parents while managing burgeoning responsibilities and caseloads?
The tension is clear. That’s why Making Prevention Possible is our theme for Child Safety Week 2026, which runs from 1 to 7 June 2026.
We’ve brought all our free resources together in one place. There’s a flexible offering to fit the time you have. And it’s available throughout the year, allowing you to build child accident prevention into your work as capacity allows.
