Behind our Masks

29th January 2021

A Voices blog in the form of a lovely poem by Debbie Holroyd FiHV, Practice Educator/Health Visiting at Sutton Health and Care Alliance, on life behind our masks.

Behind the mask

there is a smile.

Behind the mask

that person cares.

We too have other lives:

parent, partner, sibling, child.

Friend, colleague,

team mate, boss.

So, just occasionally,

we may get lost.

Behind the mask

we do our best,

To meet your needs

when we are stressed.

Under the apron

and the gloves

There is a person

doing a job they love.

So bear in mind,

it’s hard just now,

To get it right

when the job’s so tough.

We too

need love,

when the going’s

rough.

We are tired, stretched,

worried too.

Still we know

only our best will do.

We’re here for you.

You know we care.

We do our best

as the NHS.

We will go

the extra mile.

Because behind the mask

there is a smile.
