New evidence review suggests that home visiting for dental health promotion by health visitors is very cost effective

20th October 2016

A new review of interventions to improve oral health has just been published by Public Health England (PHE).  These resources support local authorities investing in the local commissioning of oral health improvement programmes for pre-school children

It is important evidence for health visitors to be aware of and confirms that they can have an important role in promoting tooth brushing during home visits.  Alongside, an infographic of the findings has been published for easy understanding of the results.

Dr Cheryll Adams CBE, executive director iHV, said:

“It is good to see this endorsement for the important role that health visitors can have in promoting oral health.  We are a member of the national oral health programme board and work closely with the national oral health team at PHE to help drive improvements in oral health.”
