In this Insights event we will consider the important role health visiting has in the promotion of speech, language and communication. We will share insights from two NIHR studies that the iHV is currently supporting, with a focus on promotion of evidence-based practice.
- Vicky Gilroy (iHV Director of Innovation & Research) will provide an overview of the importance of promotion of early speech, language, and communication development and the health visiting role.
- Cristina McKean (Professor of Child Language Development & Disorders, University of Oxford) will share preliminary findings from the NIHR funded study “Evaluating speech, communication, and language support at the 2-2½ year Healthy Child review (ESCALATER)“. This study aims to gain a comprehensive understanding of how health visiting services are identifying and supporting children’s speech, language and communication needs, including the tools and interventions they use and the effects these have on services, families and children.
- Lindsay Pennington (Professor of Childhood Neurodisability & Honorary Consultant Speech and Language Therapist, Newcastle University) will share the NIHR-funded study “PLACES“. This study focuses on interventions that can support families and children who may not be reached by current services and what could help these families.
As with all our Insights events, there will be an opportunity for Q&A with all the speakers.
