Join us for our iHV Insights webinar on Thursday 26 February 2026 (join from 3:15pm to allow a prompt start) 3:30pm to 4:30pm.
This is open to all iHV members.
Genomics is transforming the way we understand health and manage disease across the UK – and will become an increasingly important part of almost every aspect of healthcare, including health visiting. Want to know more? Join us to hear about ground‑breaking research focused on newborn genome screening in England and its implications for health visiting practice. And we are delighted to be joined by Vicky and Joey Underhay, parents to Freddie, who was found to have a condition screened for in the Generation Study called hereditary retinoblastoma.
The Generation Study is a national large-scale research study, which is sequencing the genomes of 100,000 newborns to screen for 200+ rare genetic conditions at various hospitals in England.
By attending this iHV Insights webinar, you will receive an overview of the study, hear from those who manage the process of sharing results, those who ensure families receive their results and the role of health visitors supporting babies, children and families participating in the Generation Study.
This Insights event will provide the opportunity to:
- understand how whole genome sequencing is being used to screen babies (who are participants of the Generation Study) early for certain rare diseases.
- appreciate the results pathway for all babies (who are participants of the Generation Study), and in particular, for babies where a condition is suspected.
- hear from parents and their health visitor as they share Freddie’s story from joining the Generation Study, to receiving his diagnosis, and understanding the care he now requires.
- hear from a health visitor with experience in supporting a baby and family with a condition confirmed.
- be informed of key resources to equip your knowledge and practice of the Generation Study.
- ask your questions to our speakers.
Speakers will include:
- Lindsay Ratan – a Case Manager working on the Generation Study, with a focus on returning condition suspected results to the Regional Results Co-Ordinators. Lindsay’s background is in Midwifery, most recently Antenatal and Newborn Screening
- Amy Clarkson – a registered Genetic Counsellor, and prior to her current role as Regional Results Coordinator for the Generation Study in the North East and Yorkshire region, has worked in a range of areas within genetics
- Vicky and Joey Underhay – parents with lived experience, who will share their personal journey
- Dawn Wickers – Interim Team Leader, Nightingale Team, Rotherham Children’s Public Health Nursing Service – Family Health Division
- Sally Shillaker, Practice Development Lead – Genomics, Institute of Health Visiting
