Help Shape Future Research on Babies’ and Young Children’s Development

13th October 2025

We’ve launched a new survey to better understand what matters most for babies, young children, and their families, and we need your expertise.

This short survey invites you to share any questions, concerns, or uncertainties about how children’s social and emotional development is supported – including the services, people, and approaches involved.

Things to consider when completing this survey…

  1. What’s the biggest question on your mind about babies’ and young children’s emotional and social development?
  2. Have you ever tried to find evidence about something but couldn’t find any answers, or a clear answer?
  3. Where would you like academics and future research to focus to better support you in your work?

The Developing Child UK Priority Setting Partnership (PSP), run in collaboration with the James Lind Alliance, is asking practitioners, commissioners and policymakers to share the key questions you believe future research should answer. Your voice matters in making sure research funding addresses the most important priorities.

Kieran Anders, Dad Matters lead at Home-Start, explains more about the survey in this video:

This survey should take around 10 minutes to complete.

You can find out more about the JLA PSP here.

We are also looking for feedback from parents/carers directly – please can we ask you to share the survey link with any parents with children under 5 years  – please share this link:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DevelopingChild
