8th October 2024
#WorldMentalHealthDay is celebrated each year on 10 October. This year, the theme is ‘workplace mental health’, highlighting the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace. At iHV we know how this benefits our staff, our members, our stakeholders and the families we work with. That’s why, at our recent staff Away Days, we made sure to have some time to have fun and connect with each other, as well as attend to more serious issues such as quality improvement and sustainability.
We are also delighted to let you know we have updated two of our Good Practice Points (GPPs) to support you in your work with families:
GPP – Understanding mothers’ mental health and wellbeing during the transition to parenthood
It is estimated that 1 in 4 women are affected by mental health problems during pregnancy and in the first year after childbirth, and suicide remains the leading cause of direct maternal death in the first postnatal year. Recent evidence demonstrates that health visiting has a clinical and cost-effective role in perinatal mental health care, by identifying families at risk of, or suffering from, mental health problems and providing effective evidence-based treatments, or facilitating referrals to specialist teams.
GPP – Understanding fathers’ mental health and wellbeing during the transition to parenthood
The transition to fatherhood involves a multitude of complex changes which makes this a particularly important, yet vulnerable, time in life. Through their universal reach, health visitors can identify families at risk of, or experiencing mental health problems, and provide effective evidence-based treatments, or facilitate referrals to specialist teams.
Please note that GPPs are available to iHV members.
If you’re not a member, please join us to get access to all of our resources.
The iHV is a self-funding charity – we can only be successful in our mission to strengthen health visiting practice if the health visiting profession and its supporters join us on our journey. We rely on our membership to develop new resources for our members.
