Sally Shillaker

Professional Lead (Innovation and Research)

Sally completed a Psychology degree before commencing her nurse training. This equipped her with knowledge and skills essential to public health and health visiting. She completed her MSc alongside her adult nurse training. Sally completed her Paediatric nurse training and worked in acute Paediatrics before moving into the community as a School Nurse, with a key role in Special Schools. She completed her SCPHN (HV) in 2013. Sally originally joined iHV for 1 day each week to develop the Good Practice Points (GPPs) while maintaining a clinical role as a paediatric research nurse and health visitor. Developing new GPPs led to opportunities to work with other organisations to develop resources for health visitors such as the Genomics Education Programme and from there a secondment with Genomics England. Sally is Professional Lead within the Innovation and Research department at the iHV. She is currently leading iHV programmes on genomics - supporting health visiting knowledge of genomics and its application to practice. In addition, Sally supports a range of iHV research projects and sector-led improvement work at the Institute.
