Dr Helen Crawley

Dr Helen Crawley is a dietician and public health nutritionist with over 30 years’ experience in public health nutrition.

Helen currently manages and coordinates the work of First Steps Nutrition Trust (www.firststepsnutrition.org). The Trust is passionate about the need for expert, independent information and support for good nutrition – and good food – from pre-conception to five years. First Steps Nutrition Trust is a member of Sustain, Baby Feeding Law Group and the Eating Better campaign and works with a range of professional organisations, NGO and charities to promote better nutrition in the early years.

Previously Helen has worked in government, academia, research and the charitable sector promoting good nutrition for vulnerable population groups. Helen was the Science Director at Caroline Walker Trust for many years and wrote national guidance on standards for food in schools, early years settings and residential care settings for adults and children. She currently has an honorary research fellow post at City University London, sits on the WHO Scientific and Technical Group on the inappropriate marketing of foods to infants and children, the CODEX e-working party on follow on formula standards, Unicef Baby Friendly UK designation committee and the NICE panel on maternal and child nutrition.

Helen has collaborated with the Institute of Health Visiting (iHV) on the production of a range of learning materials, including Good Practice Points for Health Visitors, Parent Tips and the new Healthy Weight, Healthy Nutrition Health Visitor Champions training pack.
