Foetal Alcohol Syndrome e-learning

This e-learning resource has been developed by NHS Education for Scotland to support a range of activity led by the Scottish Government to substantially reduce the harm caused by alcohol consumption in pregnancy across Scotland.

The learning resource is divided into five main sections:

  • understanding foetal alcohol harm,
  • prevention,
  • detection,
  • management
  • conclusions.

Each section will generally take between 30 and 60 minutes to complete.  The length of time will depend on whether you choose to engage with all parts of the course, including watching all of the available films and undertake the reflection activities on the community website. The whole resource represents around 4 hours of learning.

Please note these e-learning modules are designed for health visitors who have already undertaken many years of education and training in nursing and/or midwifery as well as health visiting. They are designed to build on the theoretical underpinning that you use in practice, whilst refreshing and updating your practice.

Other members utilising the resources must do so within their own sphere of practice and within the jurisdiction of their employer’s vicarious liability. The Institute is not responsible for the application of these resources in practice.
